For 33 years, the Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series has been dedicated to raising funds to “catch the cure” for cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that affects the respiratory and digestive systems. Tournament founders Susan Ellis and her late husband Gary created the series in 1988 after their daughter was diagnosed. To date, monies raised have neared $26 million.
Kickoff for the Redbone is Friday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m. with registration and dinner for anglers, guides and celebrities to meet and swap fishing stories at the Islamorada Fishing Club, 104 Madeira Road. The much-anticipated silent auction is set for 6-8 p.m.
Fishing days Saturday and Sunday commence at 7 a.m. with lines in the water after breakfast at the Lorelei Cabana Bar, mile marker 82 bayside, and lines out at 3 p.m. Dockside parties follow from 3-5 p.m.
Sunday evening’s banquet-style awards ceremony at the Florida Keys Conference Center, inside the Islander Resort at mile marker 82.1, begins with cocktails at 6 p.m. Trophies for top anglers in fly, artificial and bait categories are to be awarded.
Entry fee is $3,700 per two-angler team and includes a guide for two days of fishing and social functions for each angler and their guest. Half of the entry fee is a tax-deductible donation to the Redbone Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
