A resident of Littleton, Packo scored 306 points to become the tournament’s grand champion angler. Packo fished with Captain Simon Becker of Cudjoe Key, Florida, who was named guide to the grand champion.
The tournament’s first runner-up angler was Thane Morgan of Amarillo, Texas. Guided by Captain Dustin Huff of Marathon, Florida, Morgan released one permit that earned 133 points. His fish measured 33.25 inches and was the tournament’s largest single catch.
Tim Brune of Victor, Idaho, was named second runner-up angler. He also released one permit, scoring 126 points based on the size of the fish. Brune’s guide was Captain Scott Irvine of Key West.
Twenty-four boat teams of permit enthusiasts fished the tournament. Proceeds benefit the Lower Keys Guides Association and the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, which helps conserve and restore bonefish, tarpon and permit fisheries and habitats in the Western Hemisphere.
