KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Known for its diversity and come-as-you-are appeal, Key West is to host the inaugural Big Gay Key West festivities Wednesday through Sunday, Sept. 13-18. The adult-oriented LGBTQ event has a “cabana boy” theme and is to cater to an all male big-is-beautiful audience.

The Big Gay Key West schedule is to include pool parties, clothing-optional events, late-night adventures and gatherings that showcase some of the island’s leading LGBTQ venues. Attendees also can venture out and enjoy other land and water adventures that Key West has to offer.

Ticketed festivalgoers are to have reciprocal access to four popular LGBTQ resorts in Old Town Key West: Island House, 1129 Fleming St.; New Orleans House, 724 Duval St.; Alexander's Guesthouse, 1118 Fleming St.; and Equator Resort, 822 Fleming St.

Upon arrival, attendees must check in at the registration booth (booth locations and hours to be provided at biggaykeywest.org) and pick up a personalized event badge. Badges are required for access to events, activities and featured resorts.

The festival fun begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday with “Cards & Board Games” at the Bourbon St. Pub, 724 Duval St., followed by a complimentary lunch and unique Nantaimori Party among other attractions.

Thursday’s highlights include the “Thirsty Thursday Pool Party” at 1 p.m. at Island House, happy hours at all four featured resorts, and the official “Cabana Boy Welcome Party” set for 8:30 p.m. at Bourbon St. Pub Complex at 8:30 p.m.

Among Friday’s scheduled standouts is the “Down to Friday Pool Party” at 1 p.m. at Island House Resort, with complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Attendees on Saturday can enjoy activities that include “Drag Queen Bingo” poolside at Alexander’s Guesthouse; Sunset Watersports’ sunset dinner cruise featuring a tropical buffet; and the “Cabana Boy Dance Party” at Club 504, 504 Angela St.

Sunday is to bring a bocce ball contest, Island House’s “Conga Line Pool Party,” happy hour at the featured resorts and entertainment options. The festivities come to a close Monday, Sept. 18, with a farewell breakfast at the Saint Hotel, 417 Eaton St.
