After a weekend spent angling for trophy-size snook, redfish and trout, an angler from St. Petersburg, Florida, took two top awards at the annual Take Stock in Children Backcountry Challenge that ended Sept. 25.

Angling teams can test their skill at catching bonefish, permit and barracuda during the ninth annual Sugarloaf Showdown scheduled Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 10-12.

Team TightNUp earned top honors for a 35.6-pound dolphin fish in the 10th annual VFW Fishing Tournament that ended June 19 in Key West. Alexa Barket of Live Oak, Florida, caught the fish that clinched the tournament’s $5,000 prize for the team.

Anglers targeting marlin and other fish are to compete for $50,000 in guaranteed cash prizes in the Perry Hotel & Marina Key West Marlin Tournament, scheduled Wednesday through Saturday, July 20-23.

The 29th annual Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce Dolphin Tournament has been rescheduled to take place Friday through Sunday, June 10-12 — postponed a week because of inclement weather forecast for South Florida and the Florida Keys during the original June 3-5 dates.
