An award-winning "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!" weekend university provides a girls' getaway Friday through Sunday, Oct. 20-22, where female anglers can learn techniques from prominent fishing captains in the Florida Keys' sport fishing capital of Islamorada. 

Fishing for elusive shallow-water gamefish is the primary attraction of the 2017 Robert James Sales S.L.A.M., set to draw anglers, guides and celebrities to Key West Friday through Sunday, Sept. 8-10.

For 18 years the Take Stock in Children Backcountry Challenge has successfully combined family, fundraising and fishing. The 2017 tournament is set for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 22-24, in Key Largo. 

An information booth geared to help travelers coming to the Florida Keys for lobster mini-season is to open Saturday, July 22, at Key Largo's Waldorf Plaza, mile marker 100 oceanside near the top of the Florida Keys Overseas Highway.

Mike Dawes of Wilson, Wyoming, caught and released four permit to earn 600 points and the title of grand champion angler at the 2017 Del Brown Permit Tournament that ended July 11. The tournament honors the late angling legend Brown, who caught more than 500 permit during his lifetime. 

When the weigh scales closed at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 10, it was clear that Islamorada’s Captain Justin Matson, skippering the Islamorada Beer Co. boat, had led his anglers to victory in the fifth annual Ladies Dolphin Tournament.

A challenging Middle Keys marlin tournament is to test anglers’ skill Friday through Sunday, July 14-16. 

Team Chase Me scored a 40.5-pound dolphin fish to take first place in the 24th annual Big Pine & Lower Keys Dolphin Tournament that ended June 4. 

Islamorada Classic tournaments appeal to anglers of all ages looking to fish for multiple species. The Islamorada Summer Classic offshore team event is set for Friday through Sunday, July 7-9.

Lisa Ferringo of Summerland Key, Florida, caught a 24.84-pound dolphin fish to earn top honors in the women’s division of the inaugural Key West Co-Ed Mahi Masters tournament that ended Sunday, May 14.
