ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Brooke Black was named grand champion angler at the 28th annual Robert-James Sales Baybone Celebrity Tournament that ended Oct. 7 in Islamorada.
Fishing with her father, Captain David Denkert, Black caught and released seven bonefish and one permit on bait during the two-day challenge, taking the lady angler title and largest bonefish award with a fish measuring 27 inches.
Black’s teammate Wade Davis added two bones on artificial, one on bait and one permit on bait to ensure the duo captured the Baybone’s team grand championship, guided by Denkert. The team is from Islamorada.
Former NASA astronaut Bruce Melnick earned celebrity grand champion honors.
A six-boat field released 26 bonefish and three permit.
The Baybone is part of the Redbone Trilogy series, which raises money to fund cystic fibrosis research. The series culminates Nov. 2-4 in Islamorada with the Robert-James Sales Redbone Celebrity Tournament.
