A trip to the Florida Keys offers an inviting array of sea-based adventures for nature lovers, adventurers and even couch potatoes. Visitors can explore the waters surrounding the islands at their own pace and energy level. 

 The subtropical Florida Keys & Key West are resplendent with indigenous species in hidden, tucked-away gardens nestled throughout the 125-mile-long island chain.

Nearly everyone who journeys to the Florida Keys samples grilled locally caught yellowtail snapper or mahi-mahi, steamed Key West pink shrimp, clawless Florida lobster and chilled stone crab claws. Since their just-off-the-boat freshness is all the adornment they need, they’re often prepared with a simplicity that only enhances their flavor. 

When the weigh scales closed at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 10, it was clear that Islamorada’s Captain Justin Matson, skippering the Islamorada Beer Co. boat, had led his anglers to victory in the fifth annual Ladies Dolphin Tournament.

Independence Day celebrations throughout the 125-mile-long Florida Keys island chain salute the nation’s freedom — and the quirky independent spirit of the Keys — with local parades, picnics and parties topped off by fireworks displays.

Islamorada Classic tournaments appeal to anglers of all ages looking to fish for multiple species. The Islamorada Summer Classic offshore team event is set for Friday through Sunday, July 7-9.

Anglers and University of Miami Hurricanes sports fans can fish with their favorite ‘Canes All-Stars at the annual University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Fishing Tournament. The tournament is scheduled Friday and Saturday, June 23-24, in Islamorada. 

Opened in 2005, the Florida Keys History of Diving Museum is a unique 3,000-square-foot showcase of interactive exhibits. 

Rob Preihs of Islamorada took top honors at the annual Jim Bokor Islamorada All-Tackle Bonefish and Redfish Shootout that ended March 10. 

Designed to promote fishing for anglers of all ages in a team event, the multi-species Islamorada Spring Classic is set for Friday through Sunday, April 28-30, with all fishing designated in Florida Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
