ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Topping the field of elite anglers that competed in the three-day Islamorada All-Tackle Bonefish & Permit Championship that ended Oct. 16, tournament veteran Roger Fernandez of Pinecrest, Florida, was awarded grand champion honors.
 
Fernandez fished with Captain Steve Tejera of Homestead, Florida. He totaled 5,319 points for the overall win and also won the artificial and fly divisions with 3,710 and 684 points, respectively.
 
The award for the most releases of the tournament, 19 bonefish and one permit, went to Raleigh, North Carolina, angler Richard Barnett, who fished with Islamorada’s Captain Mark Krowka.
 
Aldo Musico of Naples, Florida, won the bait division with 3,876 points as well as catching the tournament’s largest permit, measuring 35 inches.
 
Over the tournament’s three days, a total of 96 bonefish and 28 permit were released.
 
The 2020 All-Tackle Bonefish & Permit Championship, its 50th iteration, is set for Oct. 11-14.
