ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Islamorada’s Captain Brian Cone guided his team on the Conetagious to a winner-take-all $11,000 grand prize at the Islamorada Fishing Club Captains Cup Dolphin Tournament that ended June 28.

           

The team weighed in its three heaviest dolphin fish, totaling 21 pounds, for the win. Conetagious team members were Don DeLeon from Miami; Travis Bennett and Andy Cone of Tavernier, Florida; along with mate Justin Matson of Key Largo, Florida.

           

Captain Chris Ware and the team on Executive Decision were close on their heels with a total of 20.8 pounds. The fish were brought in by anglers Jill and John Paglia from Ocala, Florida; Mike Kasten of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Sam Milazzo from Tavernier.

 

Anglers KC Spaulding of Islamorada and Tyler Kelly from Auburndale, Florida, with Digger Rodamer and Joe Marino from Marathon, Florida, brought in 20.1 pounds for third place. They fished on the Killbox helmed by Captain Cody Darby.

 

Organizers said the 2024 edition of the hotly contested one-day tournament is to take place June 27, 2024.
